WHY CHURCHES IN CAPPADOCIA ARE DAMAGED?

Cappadocia has been home for a lot of cultures and religions for long years. During this time some of peoples weren’t that polite towards other cultures or religions. So one of the reason of damage at Churchs in Cappadocia, is close-minded individuals who lives in the area during whole history.

Second reason, is nature in Cappadocia. Obviously Cappadocia’s weather has dramatic temperature difference during daytime and night. Except from that, there is lots of wind and rain too. All of these factors caused Churches to be damaged.

Third reason is, back in last century there was a population exchange between Greeks , Balkan countries and Turkey. While local Christians are moving, some of them wanted to take some pieces –especially eyes- of the Churches in Cappadocia to worship.

Fourth reason is , before then some muslim peoples were living in the Churches. Since its forbidden to have any kind of human Picture in house for muslims. They have plastered and covered over frescoes.

Except from that, there was smugglers too, who damaged and hurt all of these artifacts in Cappadocia too.
