TURKISH CUISINE

Turkish cuisine is one of the well-known cuisines in worldwide. Because of Turkey’s location ,there was a lot of societies and different cultures who lived in Anatolia area during history. You will going to see similarities between Turkish cuisine and neighbour cuisines : middle east, European and Mediterranean .

Generally in West side of Turkey has more olive oil based dishes due to plenty of olive trees. Must try dishes from this area are, yaprak sarma, dolma, Izmir köfte, Cokertme kebabı and seafood dishes like Calamari, Shrimp Casserole, octopus etc.

For East side, we can say that the dishes which are representing Turkey in Worldwide are actually coming from this area. Especially Sanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Hatay and Kahramanmaras is really famous. Generally this area’s cuisine is a little bit more heavy than West side but its definetely worth it. While you are in this area, I can recommend you to taste Baklava, kunefe, kadayıf , Adana/Urfa kebab (Adana kebab is more spicy) , Lahmacun,Şiş Kebap etc.

In Central Anatolia, there is more carb contained dishes in here. In this area you can try, mantı, yağlama, cig borek, testi kebabi, nohutlu yahni, yogurt corbası,keskek, etli ekmek.

For Drinks and beverages, during your stay in Turkey you must drink Rakı. Its %40 alcoholic national drink of Turkey. Also ,Turkey is the 6th biggest grape producer in Turkey so you should taste Turkish wine too. Except from that, as traditional Ottoman drinks, you can taste rose/ sweet basil / hibiscus and other new variations of traditional sherbets.
