CAPPADOCIA HITTITES AND HATTUSA

Hittites are one of the most important civilization who has been lived from 1800 BC till 600 BC around Red river in Anatolia in Neolithic era. Cappadocia’s name is actually gived by Persians who had relationship with Hittites. Persians were attacking to Hittites and took horses as trasures. And Cappadocia’s original name “Katpatuka” is actually means the land of beautiful horses in persian. Katpatuka turned into Cappadocia in years. Hittites has an important place in World and Cappadocia history.

Back in that time Hittites were the first peoples who used bronze. Anatolia was rich for cupric in that time,and still there is a lot of cupric in Hattusa even today.In Bronze Age, Hittites were getting stannic(tin) from Assyrians to make cupric plates,cups etc. They were mixing cupric and tin to get bronze.One of the biggest invention of the neolithic era was potter’s Wheel made by Hittites. Also, world’s first peace treaty ,Kadesh treaty, has been signed in this times between Hittites and Egyptians.

The Wheel system that they have used for war cars was also really important. Hitites main godess were Cybele, the mother godess. The Godess of fertility in Anatolia. Later on, Cybele turned into Artemis in Roman empire and Mary the Virgin in Christianity times. Capital of the Hittites, Hattusa is in Bogazkale,Corum,Turkey today.



CYBELE

Yazlıkkaya monument is one of the most important cult center. In Yazlıkkaya, there is twelve gods and undergroung god “Nergal” are the most important figures in here. Hittites Empire center has five different doors, the most important ones among this doors are Aslanlı door and Kral door. Palace of the Empire and the cult room is must-see places. Alacahoyuk is the most important place to see Hittites burial ceremonies. Hittites has built the first dam in here. If you want you can take a daily tour from Cappadocia to Hattusa, it is also possible. Distance between Cappadocia to Hattusa is 195 kilometers and entrencee fee to Hattusa is 12 TRY.
