Silk road was a trade route that connects the East and the West countries from 2nd century BCE to the 18th century. It was connecting East Asia and Southeast Asia with South Asia, Persia, the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa and Southern Europe. Since the Silk is the most unusual item transported on the Silk Road for the West, it gave the road its name. Porcelain , paper ,spices and precious Stones has been transported onto Silk road too. Except from that, not only physical item, but Silk road also allowed cultural exchange between continents.
As you can see from the map below, Cappadocia was on the Silk road , which makes it popular for traders. Also, the area was pretty safe during Silk road trade times and there was a lot of caravanserais made by Turkish sultanas, especially Sultan Aladdin Kayqubad I had built a lot of caravanserais to Cappadocia area.
