Fairychimneys are natural-formated soft well-cemented sandstone, limestone, or basalt stones that eroded by rain, snow, flood and wind. When the rain has higher asidic water, its easier to deform the rock. For Cappadocia area, 60 millions of years ago volcanic lava and ashes that are coming off from Erciyes, Golludag and Hasan mountain, landed onto this area. After cooling down water, wind and the air temperature change between day and night made Cappadocia. In old times local peoples were thinking that fairies were living in this formations, thats why they called it fairychimneys.
